About the Journal

About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Euro-Latin American Journal of Social and Political Analysis (RELASP), was founded in Rome, on January 28, 2019, as a result of cooperation between scholars and institutions from Latin America and Europe.

Since its creation, RELASP has aimed to contribute to the production of knowledge at the university level and to the production of quality research, promoting respect for democratic values and methodological precision. Based on a strong preliminary awareness of the kind of specific contribution that political science and sociology can make to the development of the social sciences, RELASP is open to interdisciplinary cooperation, from anthropology to linguistics; from history to philosophy; and from demography to law and economics.

The journal has an editorial board from various countries, which contributes to academic collaboration between Latin America and Europe, in line with one of the RELASP objectives, which is to promote cross area comparative studies.

RELASP is aimed especially at political scientists and sociologists working in various subfields: from sociological theory to the sociology of cultural and communicational processes; from epistemology to research methodology; from comparative politics to international relations; from the study of political parties and public administration to the study of democratization and development processes.

History

The Euro-Latin American Journal of Social and Political Analysis (RELASP) was founded by Andrea Spreafico (Universitá di Roma 3) and Juan Russo (Universidad de Guanajuato), in the city of Rome, on January 28, 2019, with the purpose of contributing to the study and analysis of issues of common interest for Latin America and Europe. This initiative was inspired by the Associazione mediterranea latinoamericana per la ricerca, la formazione e la documentazione, which promoted the building of academic bridges between the two continents. RELASP’s editorial home base is in Argentina, Mexico, and Italy, and was initially published at the Instituto de Investigaciones Socio Económicas of the Universidad Nacional de San Juan, Argentina. Since December 2021, it has been published at the Facultad de Ciencia Política y Relaciones Internacionales of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Argentina.

  1. Originality Requirements

RELASP has a policy against plagiarism or redundant publication.

Articles for submission must be original and unpublished, although those that have been presented as a brief note, communication, or abstract in the memoirs of a conference will also be accepted, provided that the text on which it is based is properly cited and that the modifications involve a substantial change to what has already been published. These circumstances should be specified and the original publication should be appropriately cited.

When submitting an article, authors are asked to declare that the manuscript has not been previously published or submitted to other journals for review. They are also asked to declare that they are following the Instructions for Authors, in which it is established that the articles submitted must be original.

Upon receipt and prior to the evaluation process, internet search tools are used to corroborate originality and to check for plagiarism. To verify its originality, the manuscript may be examined through the Crossref Similarity Check service. Likewise, RELASP reviewers are asked to pay attention to signs of plagiarism as they are familiar with the literature on the subject.

In case of redundant or duplicate publications, the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) will be followed: https://publicationethics.org/files/duplicate-publication-submitted-manuscript-cope-flowchart.pdf.

  1. Document Format

Texts must be in the format indicated in SUBMISSIONS.

Any images, tables, diagrams, and other visual or textual support must be included in the manuscripts. Other file formats may be requested if required in the editorial process.

  1. Evaluation System

Submissions to RELASP undergo a peer review process. The process consists of:

Format evaluation: Submissions are evaluated by the Editorial Board verifying compliance with the formal aspects requested in the Instructions for Authors.

First phase. Articles are sent to two anonymous reviewers, specialists in the proposed subject matter, who evaluate the content of the article according to the criteria specified in the Review Guidelines.

Review Guidelines

Free articles, young articles, and essays must be peer reviewed according to the following criteria:

Title, abstract and content coherence.

Expository clarity.

Originality of the topic.

Relevance of data to the problem posed.

Sound theoretical foundation.

Relevance of the methodological design.

Apt use of visual aids (if used).

Bibliography.

Clarity and coherence in the presentation of conclusions.

Other aspects considered relevant.

Each evaluator must rate the submission as: very good, good, fair, or poor. In addition, they can make further comments expanding the evaluation of each criterion.

*Dossier submissions receive special treatment since they must coincide thematically and theoretically with the collection. Therefore, the first evaluation is done by the editors of that collection, who analyze the congruity of the submission. The manuscript is evaluated as: A) Submission accepted - it meets the evaluation requirements and coincides with the Dossier theme; and B) Submission rejected - it does not meet the evaluation requirements or does not coincide with the Dossier theme. In addition, the evaluator may add comments supporting acceptance or rejection or establishing conditions for acceptance. After this stage, submissions are evaluated by a peer reviewer according to the guidelines for free articles.

The possible results in the first round are:

Publishable

Publishable with minor modifications

Publishable subject to major modifications

Not acceptable for publication

*If the submission is evaluated as "publishable" in two reviews, the submission is accepted and goes to editorial review.

*If the submission is evaluated as "publishable with minor modifications" or "publishable subject to major modifications" in one or both reviews, the submission goes to a second round of evaluation.

*If the submission is evaluated as "publishable," "publishable with minor modifications," or "publishable subject to major modifications" in one review and "not acceptable for publication" in another, it is submitted to a third evaluator who, under the same guidelines, decides whether the manuscript goes to a second round of evaluation or whether it is rejected.

*If the submission is evaluated as "not acceptable for publication" in both opinions, the publication is rejected.

*For Dossier submissions, the decision of the second evaluator is final.

Second round: the resubmitted articles are evaluated by the same reviewers as in the first round, based on the suggested changes. The resubmission may be graded as follows:

Submission accepted – satisfactorily addressed the suggestions made.

Submission rejected – did not satisfactorily address the suggestions made.

*When evaluation is "satisfactorily addressed the suggestions made" in both reviews, the submission is accepted and goes to editorial review.

*In evaluations of " satisfactorily addressed the suggestions made" in one review and "did not satisfactorily address the suggestions made" in the other, the submission is (…) and goes to a third round of review.

*In evaluations of "did not satisfactorily address the suggestions made" in both reviews, the submission is rejected.

Third round: Only when the articles receive opposing opinions in the second round of review are they sent to a third reviewer, who evaluates the submission as:

Submission accepted.

Submission rejected.

*This decision is final and no changes can be suggested at this point.

Editorial review: Once the submission is accepted, it goes through a review of form and style where a member of the Editorial Board suggests changes to the author.
