Envejecimiento y miopía social en los Estados Unidos

Los Estados Unidos enfrentan reconfiguracioness complicadas por desbalances generacionales entre sus grupos raciales y étnicos. Estos desbalances fundamentan un individualismo recalcitrante que soslaya la estabilidad de la colectividad, como por ejemplo en el desvalijamiento de redes de apoyo, tales como el sistema de seguridad social. Este trabajo resalta la cotidianidad de ese individualismo como una miopía social en que intereses individuales a corto plazo carcomen el bien social en maneras aparentemente inocentes. Se alerta que una renuencia a compartir privilegios e influencias conforme a los nuevos porcentajes sociales y raciales del país pone en juego el tan pregonado principio democrático de que las mayorías gobiernan.
