Abstract

En este artículo tratamos algunos temas relacionados con el contexto social y político alrededor de la elaboración y estreno de la película de animación 3D Coco (2017). Como parte de un estudio doctoral sobre la historia social de su personaje principal, en este artículo nos centramos en el clima político que colocó la temática de la migración en la mente de las amplias audiencias disgregadas por el mundo. Podemos comprender la selección por parte de Disney-Pixar de ciertos temas relacionados con la migración y su posterior edulcoramiento a la luz de tendencias más amplias en la cultura política norteamericana, expresadas de forma evolutiva respecto a su posición sobre la “cuestión de los inmigrantes hispanos” adoptada a lo largo del tiempo por diferentes presidencias americanas. Ello nos llevará a realizar un breve repaso histórico que conduce desde la presidencia estadounidense de George W. Bush, hasta la presidencia de Donald Trump, vigente en el momento del estreno del audiovisual en 2017.
