Abstract

During the last fifty years the proportion of unionized workers has decreased in general terms in the world, especially in the countries of greater relative development. One of the factors that may influence this trend are changes in working conditions, linked to the drop in industrial employment, deregulation and informalization, and the general segmentation of working conditions, which affect incentives to unionize. in the workplace. This paper analyzes how these trends can affect unionization incentives and exposes the incidence of these factors through a study of data on first degree unionization in recent Uruguay.
